Gentamicin Sulfate Ointment 0.1% | 30gm Tube
Padagis Israel
Gentamicin Sulfate Ointment 0.1% is a topical antibiotic formulated for dermatologic use, effective in treating a variety of primary and secondary bacterial skin infections. Each gram of the ointment contains gentamicin sulfate equivalent to 1 mg of gentamicin base, combined with a base of light mineral oil and white petrolatum. The product also includes methylparaben and propylparaben as preservatives.
Indications:
This ointment is indicated for the treatment of:
- Primary skin infections such as impetigo contagiosa, superficial folliculitis, ecthyma, furunculosis, sycosis barbae, and pyoderma gangrenosum.
- Secondary skin infections including infectious eczematoid dermatitis, pustular acne, pustular psoriasis, infected seborrheic dermatitis, infected contact dermatitis (e.g., poison ivy), infected excoriations, and bacterial superinfections of fungal or viral infections.
It is important to note that gentamicin is a bactericidal agent and is not effective against viral or fungal skin infections.
Dosage and Administration:
Apply a small amount of Gentamicin Sulfate Ointment gently to the affected area three to four times daily. The treated area may be covered with a gauze dressing if desired. In cases like impetigo contagiosa, removing crusts before application can enhance the antibiotic's effectiveness. Care should be taken to avoid further contamination of the infected skin.
Precautions:
- Hypersensitivity: Contraindicated in individuals with known sensitivity to any of its components.
- Overgrowth of Nonsusceptible Organisms: Use of topical antibiotics may allow overgrowth of nonsusceptible organisms, including fungi. If this occurs, or if irritation, sensitization, or superinfection develops, discontinue use and initiate appropriate therapy.
- Use in Specific Populations: Gentamicin Sulfate Ointment has been used successfully in infants over one year of age, as well as in adults and children.
