General Dressings
Maxorb® Extra Ag+ Sterile Silver Alginate Dressing is an advanced wound care product designed to promote healing in moderate to heavily exuding wounds. Developed by Medline, a leading provider of medical supplies, this dressing combines the absorbency of alginate with the antimicrobial properties of silver to create an optimal environment for wound healing.
Key Features:
- Silver Alginate Composition:
- Maxorb® Extra Ag+ Dressing is composed of calcium alginate fibers embedded with ionic silver. The alginate material absorbs exudate while the silver ions provide broad-spectrum antimicrobial protection, effectively reducing bacterial colonization within the wound bed.
- Highly Absorbent:
- The alginate fibers rapidly absorb wound exudate, maintaining a moist wound environment conducive to healing. This high absorbency helps prevent maceration of surrounding tissue and minimizes the risk of leakage and wound contamination.
- Extended Wear Time:
- Maxorb® Extra Ag+ Dressing can be left in place for up to 7 days, depending on the level of exudate and the condition of the wound. This extended wear time reduces the frequency of dressing changes, enhancing patient comfort and convenience.
- Conformable and Flexible:
- The dressing is soft, conformable, and easy to apply to various wound shapes and contours. It adapts to the wound bed without causing trauma, making it suitable for use on irregularly shaped or difficult-to-dress wounds.
- Gel Formation:
- Upon contact with exudate, the alginate fibers transform into a soft, cohesive gel that maintains moisture at the wound interface. This gel formation helps promote autolytic debridement and facilitates the removal of necrotic tissue from the wound bed.
- Non-Adherent Backing:
- The non-adherent backing prevents the dressing from adhering to the wound bed, minimizing trauma and pain during dressing changes. It also allows for atraumatic removal, reducing the risk of disrupting newly formed granulation tissue.
Indications:
- Maxorb® Extra Ag+ Dressing is indicated for the management of moderate to heavily exuding partial and full-thickness wounds, including:
- Pressure ulcers
- Venous leg ulcers
- Diabetic foot ulcers
- Surgical wounds
- Traumatic wounds
- Donor sites
- Cavity wounds
